About Us
Is a family friendly pub and restaurant with a wholesome
variety of fresh food on our extensive menu. We also have a wide range of
continental lagers, local beers, fresh fruit smoothies and a selection of
coffees and pastries.
The pub is in the country hamlet of Aldenham off the A41
near Watford town and the Hilton Hotel. Dating back to the 18th Century, the
Three Compasses is a Grade II listed building with a lot of history. As a result
of this, the pub's character has been retained with timber beams and two open
fires. Patchetts Green dates back to the 11th Century, around the time of the
Norman Conquest and the village green has been a gathering place throughout the
last millennium. An alehouse has stood by the Green for almost as long and was
reputedly visited in the 17th Century by Cromwell's men at the time of the Civil
War and by the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin in the 18th Century.
Our more
recent claim to fame was featuring as "The Black Swan" in the film 633 Squadron.
The Pub is owned by the Druid Pub Company, the name comes from its owner, Alan
"Druid" Walters who is a former Welsh Colts and U21 Rugby International - but
that was back when they were giving caps away with green shield stamps!! In his
youth, Druid played for Neath, Aberavon and Caerphilly. Alan is also a
successful rugby coach helping many local sides within the area.
Alan and his
family welcome all to the Druids theme, which is a welcoming atmosphere for
everyone around the theme of good company, good sportsmanship and good cheer.
The pubs specialise in real ale, bottled beers from around the world and a good
selection of fine wines - tasting notes are provided for the connoisseur. All
our food is made with fresh ingredients and the menu ranges from doorstep
sandwiches to hearty stews to slimming salads .
The pubs are decorated with
rugby shirts and memorabilia. Some of these are available for sale.
